Pheromones
One thing that gets mentioned, but is never really explained, are Hank's sex pheromones - which he has more control over after his second mutation. What I gather is that after his second mutation, Hank basically had to run through a second puberty in his blue furred form. With the ability to choose when he could secrete his sex pheromones, he kind of went through a "wild libido" phase. Let's dive right into this with X-Factor #54 (1990), which is actually later in a linear

Masks
The first instance of Hank using a physical mask is in Amazing Adventures #12 (1972). This is right after his second mutation. He also creates an entire body brace for himself because his new furry form is in an “animal crouch”. We can see, from issue 12 below, that it’s not an easy system to get into. The Mutations of Hank McCoy
Born This Way Hank McCoy was a mutant from birth, instead of it manifesting when he reached puberty. I covered this a little in Early Years. When he joined the X-Men, as one of the original five, he was 5'-11" and 402 lbs. His mutation ended up with him being overly muscular with extra large feet and hands, dexterity of feet, highly agile, highly intelligent, very durable, can jump up to 32 feet, can run on all fours up to 40 mph for short sprints. Uncanny X-Men. Issue #5

Keep in mind that it takes YEARS (and often steroids) to achieve this amount of bulk. Kai Greene. Height 5'-7.5". Weight 275lbs competing, 300lbs off season. Phil Heath. Height 5'-9". Weight 240lbs competing, 270lbs off season. Branch Warren. Height 5'-6". Weight 245lbs competing, 275lbs off season. D

Norton & Edna McCoy
By the time Hank was in elementary school, the principal pulled his parents aside because Hank was starting to get into trouble, taking things apart to understand them. He was the smartest kid in the school and they ended up putting him in an accelerated program. It might seem a little odd to bring up Hank's parents, but there is an important dynamic between Hank and his parents the affects his personality and his life. Norton McCoy had been working at a nuclear power plant i
